Traditional Ceremony

PRESENTING OF THE BRIDE (optional)

Who supports this woman in marriage to this man?  (“I do” or “We do,” says whoever brought her forth.)

GREETING

Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join <Partner 1> and <Partner 2> in matrimony, which is commended to be honorable among all people; and therefore is not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly. Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace. You may be seated.

OPENING PRAYER OR READING (optional)

(This is a personalized addition to your ceremony and sets the tone for the festivities.)

DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE

(This is usually a verse, poem, or recitation of the meaning and significance of marriage. Examples can be found here.)

VOWS

I <Partner 1> take thee, <Partner 2> to be my husband/wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, in joy and in sorrow, as long as we both shall live.

I <Partner 2> take thee <Partner 1> to be my husband/wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, in joy and sorrow,   as long as we both shall live.

EXCHANGE OF RINGS

(Partner 1 to Partner 2) <Partner 2>, this ring is my sacred gift, with my promise that I will always love you, cherish you and honor you all the days of my life. (Slips ring on her finger.) With this ring, I thee wed.

(Partner 2 to Partner 1) <Partner 1>, this ring is my sacred gift, with my promise that I will always love you, cherish you and honor you all the days of my life. (Slips ring on his finger.) With this ring, I thee wed.

PERSONALIZED CEREMONY EXTRA (optional)

(These ceremonies, such as the rose, sand, or unity candle ceremonies can be found here and here. Feel free to substitute other ceremonies that mean something special to you.)

CLOSING PRAYER OR READING (optional)

(This is a personalized addition to your ceremony and is often a blessing or reading about love/marriage.)

DECLARATION OF MARRIAGE

May this couple be prepared to continue to give, be able to forgive and experience more and more joy with each passing day, with each passing year. <Partner 1> and <Partner 2> are now beginning their married life together, we hope that they may have loving assistance from their family, the constant support of friends,  and a long life with good health and everlasting love. <Partner 1> and <Partner 2> have consented to live forever together in wedlock, and have witnessed the same before this company, having given and pledged their fidelity to each other with the giving and receiving of rings.

By the power vested in me by the State of California, sealed with the vows you offered each other, I now pronounce you (husband and wife)/(married). You may kiss.

Beloved family and friends, it is my great pleasure to introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. <Last Name>.
